Short of a wave of the hand and some Jedi mind tricks, the next best way to convince director J.J. Abrams that you and your buddy deserve two tickets to the premiere of "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" is to launch an X-wing into space.

That's exactly what Matt Kingsnorth and Phil St. Pier are hoping for. As part of their space photography program Project Helium Tears, they strapped a model X-wing to a giant high-altitude weather balloon equipped with GoPro cameras and launched it into the sky. The duo, residents of Essex, England, posted a video of the X-wing in flight, complete with a scrolling plea to J.J. Abrams to invite them to the premiere fashioned after the traditional "Star Wars" opening text crawl.

Abrams is widely known to enjoy special effects (he's behind the Action Movie FX app) -- and Kingsnorth and St. Pier, citing his interest in practical (non-CG) effects in particular, no doubt hope their video of a physical ship against a background of actual space is compelling enough to land two tickets to what could be the geekiest movie premiere of the 21st century.

Will J.J. give in to the temptation of the helium side and help Kingsnorth and St. Pier attend the premiere? As Darth Vader would say, it is useless to resist.

The movie opens in theaters on December 18.
